FAQ

Common questions

Here are the most common questions we are frequently asked ...

Why are tailwheel aircraft so much harder to land than tricycle aircraft?

Well ... they're not, just different. At Jay's Aero Sports, we will cover all the specifics on the relationship of the Center of the Lift versus the Center of Gravity relative to the positions of the Main Landing Gear. Once these are apparent, the secrets to landing the tailwheel aircraft are discovered!

What aircraft do you use for your training program?

The aircraft we use for our training program is the 1973 Bellanca Citabria 7KCAB. It is equipped with a fuel injected Lycoming IO-320-E2A 150 HP engine. The aircraft systems are set up for fully inverted flight with airframe G Limits of 5 positive/2 negative. This aircraft has wonderful control harmony and has large flight control surfaces that are very effective even in slow speed maneuvers during aerobatic flight. The added benefit is the ability to demonstrate flight envelope exploration during tailwheel training.

How does Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) differ from Aerobatic Training?

UPRT is a course of instruction intended to bring you proficiency in recognition and recovery from an unexpected departure from normal flight conditions (pitch and roll beyond certain parameters).    When contrasting Aerobatic Training with UPRT, aerobatic maneuvers exceeding normal flight parameters are routinely part of your training.
